Recent Discussion in Helsinki: Migration & the Future of National Borders

The DWP-Team together with social activists Amiirah and Jana are delighted to announce our next event! – On Thursday, February 18th, at 6pm.
Let’s talk about “Migration & the Future of National Borders”. We will try to cover issues of migration and offer a critical perspective on national borders.

Our speakers are:

Pasi Saukkonen
Senior Researcher & Adjunct Professor at City of Helsinki Urban Facts

Lena Näre
Assistant Professor of Sociology at University of Helsinki

Jukka Könönen
Postdoctoral Researcher in Sociology at University of Helsinki

As usual, the discussion is free of charge, open to all, and will be held in English!

We would be very happy if you joined the discussion – a perfect chance for us to meet again or for the first time, and participate in interesting discourses and argumentation.

We are expressing our huge gratitude to RUPLA and MEFA Festival for helping us to provide the location as well as the material for the event.

The discussion will take place at Rupla in Helsinginkatu 16.
We are looking forward to seeing you all! No need to register for the discussion. See the the Facebook event here.

With the aim to provide you with more information on the topic and to accelerate debate, we would like to offer a unique opportunity to attend a private screening of a classic 1987 Syrian movie on bureaucracies and the arbitrariness of national borders which is happening two days before the discussion itself. The date and time for this private screening session is February 16th, 18.00-20.00. Kindly take note that the number of places are limited and registration for the screening is compulsory – register via this link: Registration for film

We would also like to remind everyone that we are constantly looking for motivated people to join our Board and help to organize discussions. If you are interested, feel free to address one of our board members or write us an e-mail.
